In response to this, we devised a more advanced system of communicating player game stats to our clients. First off, we added flags to our Game feed, that indicate whether a game's final score is confirmed. We also added flags to the PlayerGame that indicate whether each player's statistics are final and confirmed against two or more trusted online sources.
In our PlayerGame records (found in the Box Score APIs), we added a field called IsClosed. This field will be false for the entire game. When the game is over and the player's stats have been verified against at least two online sources, this field will flip to true.
We've already rolled out this functionality to our NBA API - the other three major US sports will follow (NFL, MLB, NHL). You can look for the player game flags in the other APIs within the next couple weeks. We've already added closing flags at the game level to indicate when game scores are final. For more information on this, please read Game Finalization & Closing.
